The Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Benjamin Hundeyin has urged Oluyemi Fasipe to testify at the trials of the police officers accused of extorting corps members one million naira.
Hundeyin revealed in a statement: “The men have been summoned and their trial has commenced. We urge the complainants to visit the Complaint Response Unit at the State Headquarters to testify at the ongoing trial.”
Fasipe had laid complaint against the police operatives on 26th September alleging that they extorted money from three corps members under duress, attaching a copy of the electronic transaction made to the policemen.
He had reported that the police personnel had arrested the corps members based on the fact that they don’t have a physical copy of their driver’s license.
In his words: ‘’our officers today in Surulere extorted 1 million naira from 3 corps members. They were threatened with firearms, kidnapped, and taken to the KAFARU OLUWOLE TINUBU HOUSE AREA C POLICE COMMAND of the where they were robbed. Their offense was the absence of a physical copy of a driver’s license. This is evil!
“According to the victims, the officer in mufti is the one who collected the money (their boss). Ben, here are the transaction receipts and a voice note of one of the victims explaining how the rogue officers extorted money from the three corps members. “he added.
The corps member’s had activated his spy camera that recorded the whole thing. In the video posted along with some evidence, the police had refused the corp members to make calls, forcing them to the police station while pointing gun at the driver.
Upon verification SP Hundeyin had replied:“They are men of Area C, Surulere. The Area Commander has been contacted. The men have been identified. They are being interrogated. However, we need more than a verbal accusation. Kindly tell us more. The spy camera would have captured the exchange of money too, be it cash or transfer. Give us something to work it. Update as regards the outcome of the ongoing interrogation will be made available.”
