Barcelona’s match against Atlético Madrid could be played in Miami. The match is set to take place on the 22nd of December 2024. It would be the first time an official league match in the top five league is played outside of the country.
Barcelona and Atlético Madrid are still waiting for approvals from FIFA to carry on with the idea.
In May, FIFA revealed plans to form a working group to examine the feasibility of a revised legal framework governing domestic league matches played overseas; however, the organization has remained silent on the matter, failing to issue any public updates.
Javier Tebas, LaLiga president, revealed plans to bring the Spanish top-flight competition to the United States starting from the 2025-26 season, citing benefits for growth and development, alongside continued attempts to stage the Barcelona-Atletico Madrid clash this season as it is good for development.
