The former president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed that he enjoyed Leadership newspaper support during his eight years administration.
He revealed this in a press statement signed by his media aide, Shehu Garba on Thursday 3rd October while celebrating the newspaper 20th Anniversary.
Buhari acknowledged that the newspaper show support to him and uses its forum to address positivity while other medium were harsh and brutal in their criticism of him.
He remarked that the publication is a phenomenal platform for contributing to national progress and well-being, positivity and collective goodness.
“Let me use this opportunity to make an open acknowledgement of the tremendous support I enjoyed from the Leadership newspapers before, during, and after my eight years in office as president. You stood with me through rain and sunshine, and I always appreciate you for your consistency in this.
“As you chalk 20 years of unbroken publication – a significant feat in a country characterized by a very harsh publishing climate – I say ‘cheers from the bottom of my heart.’ Buhari added.
In a message addressed to the chairperson, management and staff of the newspapers to mark the occasion, the former President congratulated them on their success in keeping in line with the hope and aspirations of the founding chairman, late Sam NDA-Isaiah, whom he said was a friend who made immeasurable contributions to his political odysseys.
In his words: “Leadership continues as a personification of the ideals that the late Sam had for a platform celebrating positivity. I have always cherished the Leadership newspapers over the years as a platform celebrating positivity and collective goodness.
“May Sam rest in peace; may the Leadership newspapers continue to grow in its chosen role as a chronicle and a lightning rod for positivity and public good. Happy Anniversary.”Buhari prayed
