CAF has released the nominations for the 2024 Men’s Player of the Year awards, with the prestigious ceremony set to take place in Marrakech, Morocco, on 16 December 2024. The award, regarded as the highest accolade for an African player, has already stirred anticipation across the continent.
Current African Player of the Year, Victor Osimhen, is notably absent from this year’s nominations. Nigerian stars Ademola Lookman and national team captain William Troost-Ekong have been shortlisted for the Men’s Player of the Year award, while Stanley Nwabali earned a nomination following his standout performances with Nigeria at AFCON.
Nigeria has also been nominated for the Best Men’s National Team of the Year award. Despite impressive seasons, both Mohamed Salah and Victor Boniface were omitted. Salah tallied 38 goal contributions and won the Carabao Cup, while Boniface claimed the Bundesliga title, the DFB-Pokal, finished as a Europa League silver medalist, scored 21 goals, assisted 10, and played 34 matches.
