‘Rise’ is about a young couple (the Adetokunbo) who courageously left behind their baby, families and country to search for a greener pasture in a foreign land.
The Adetokunbos sneaked out of their first country of residence as it wasn’t accommodating and friendly to them, moving to Greece to build a life and start a family. They birthed four other sons, Giannis, Thanasis, Kostas and Alex.
Rise centered on Giannis & Thanasis whose love and passion for basketball augmented their zeal to remove the family from poverty and obtain a green card, so they can stop being immigrants in their country of birth.
The story gave glimpse of the religious side of the family even in the face of challenges and rejections, the couple had unwavering faith in God.
While exploring the theme of love, the writer revealed the compassionate side of the older boys for their parents & Siblings without unmanning the.
Even though the boys were able to see that basketball could be their ticket/ get-away from poverty and immigration harassment, their parents’ opinion still count and they all made decision as a unit, knowing if one fails, the failure is on all of them, same as wining.
The Iranian director, Arash Amel did an amazing job, exposing how vile immigration is abroad and its African treatment of same. However, the story needs to explore more depths such as the children schooling experiences in Greece, friendship with others outside their family members and so on.
Rise is a great inspirational movie that could be watch by the family .Highly recommend for kids as well.
