Former French international Wissam Ben Yedder has received a two-year prison sentence after being convicted of sexually assaulting a woman while under the influence of alcohol. In addition to the sexual assault charge, Ben Yedder was also found guilty of driving under the influence.
During the trial, the 34-year-old forward stated that he was too intoxicated to recall any incident of sexual assault. The prosecutor requested a sentence of two years and six months, with 18 months of the sentence suspended.
As part of the verdict, Ben Yedder has been ordered to pay €5,000 in compensation to the victim, and his driving license has been suspended for six months. Following his arrest, he has been attending alcohol rehabilitation and therapy sessions.
Ben Yedder, well-known for his successful spells with AS Monaco, Sevilla, and the French national team, was also part of the squad that claimed victory in the 2021 UEFA Nations League with Les Bleus.
