Victor Osimhen’s brilliance propelled Galatasaray to a crucial victory over English side Tottenham Hotspur. The match began with a quick strike from Yunus Akgün, who unleashed a stunning volley from outside the box that left Tottenham goalkeeper Fraser Forster helpless.
Tottenham found an equalizer in the 18th minute through the young 2005-born Welsh talent Will Lankshear, who showcased his potential with a well-taken finish.
In the 31st minute, Galatasaray reclaimed the lead, thanks to their relentless pressing. Dries Mertens capitalized on a defensive error by Dragusin, intercepting the ball and setting up Osimhen, who calmly slotted it home. Just eight minutes later, Osimhen doubled his tally with another brilliant finish, meeting a perfectly weighted cross from Mertens with a flying touch.
This marked Osimhen’s sixth goal of the season for Galatasaray, along with his three assists, highlighting his remarkable form since joining the Turkish side.
The game took a difficult turn for Lankshear, who received a second yellow card in the 60th minute for a reckless foul on Gabriel Sara, leaving Tottenham with ten men. Ange Postecoglou introduced Dominic Solanke to spark a late comeback, and Solanke quickly responded by reducing the deficit, tapping home a precise cross from Pedro Porro.
Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk decided to substitute Osimhen in the 80th minute, denying him the chance for a hat-trick. The situation became even tenser when Mauro Icardi suffered an injury in the 83rd minute and had to be stretchered off, leaving Galatasaray battling to protect their lead.
With this brace, Osimhen has silenced doubters who claimed he couldn’t succeed in the Premier League. His composed finish in front of goal highlights just how challenging it will be for Premier League defenders to contend with him.
Galatasaray has won three of their opening four games in a major European campaign for the first time since 2009-10. Osimhen earned the Man of the Match award for his exceptional performance, and the result places Galatasaray in third position in the Europa League group, with 10 points from four games. Tottenham, meanwhile, sits in seventh place with nine points.
