Lille continued their impressive UEFA Champions League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Juventus, holding the Italian giants in a tightly contested encounter.
Jonathan David opened the scoring for Lille in the 27th minute, finishing off a well-placed assist from Edon Zhegrova. Juventus thought they had equalized in the first half when Teun Koopmeiners twice found the back of the net, but both goals were disallowed for offside.
Dusan Vlahovic also came close in the 34th minute, showcasing his quality but was denied by Lille’s goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier. Despite having a relatively low 36% possession, Lille made their chances count and went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Juventus upped the tempo, pushing for an equalizer. Their efforts paid off in the 58th minute when Benjamin André brought down Francisco Conceição in the box, leading the referee to award a penalty. Vlahovic stepped up and converted the spot-kick, leveling the score for the Bianconeri.
Lille nearly regained the lead towards the 80th minute mark when Zhegrova, after beating his marker, fired a shot that forced a strong save from Juventus’ keeper, Michele Di Gregorio.
The game concluded in a draw, leaving both teams level on seven points after four Champions League group-stage matches.
