Atalanta secured a 2-0 victory over Stuttgart at the MHPArena, boosting their points tally to eight in this season’s UEFA Champions League.
The first half saw a goalless deadlock, with both teams showing defensive solidity and goalkeepers Marco Carnesecchi for Atalanta and Alexander Nübel for Stuttgart making key saves. Atalanta’s best chance came from Mario Pasalic, who directed his shot straight into Nübel’s gloves.
For Stuttgart, the notable chances fell to Anthony Rouault, who headed the ball over from close range, and Deniz Undav, whose attempt hit the side-netting just before the halftime whistle.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s tactical shift at the break brought on Charles De Ketelaere, who quickly made an impact by setting up Ademola Lookman for the opener within five minutes.
De Ketelaere beat his marker, crossed from the right wing, and Lookman converted, taking his season tally to 13 goal contributions. Stuttgart responded with efforts to equalize, including a close shot from Ermedin Demirovic that sailed wide, but they couldn’t break through.
A final contribution from another substitute, Nicolo Zaniolo, sealed the win for Atalanta, with his goal wrapping up three valuable points for the Italian side. Atalanta’s win maintains their unbeaten and clean-sheet record in the competition, placing them ninth with eight points. Meanwhile, Stuttgart, sitting 25th with four points, will face Crvena Zvezda in their next group-stage match.
