SAFA President Arrested over Allegations of Misappropriation of Organization Funds for Personal Gain

South African Football Association (SAFA) President Danny Jordaan has reportedly been arrested on allegations of misusing the organization’s funds for personal purposes, according to local media reports. His arrest comes months after a police raid at the SAFA offices in March 2024.

South Africa Police spokesperson Katlego Mogale stated: “Between 2014 and 2018, the president of SAFA used the organisation’s resources for his personal gain, including hiring a private security company for his personal protection and a public relations company, without authorisation from the SAFA board.”

Efforts by Reuters to obtain comments from SAFA and Jordaan have so far been unsuccessful. However, in court documents, the 59-year-old has pleaded his innocence. Jordaan is set to appear in court on Wednesday alongside SAFA Chief Financial Officer Gronie Hluyo and businessman Trevor Neethling, who face similar allegations.
