Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has been thrown into mourning following the death of his father. The 28-year-old shared the heart breaking news on his Instagram story shortly after the Super Eagles’ 1-1 draw against Benin Republic.
On Thursday night, Nwabali posted a brief yet emotional message, captioning it “RIP Dad” alongside a crying emoji.
Condolences have since poured in from across Nigeria, with teammates, journalists, and media outlets offering their support. Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong shared a message of solidarity on his Instagram story, writing, “Love you, my brother. We dey together.” Forward Victor Boniface also extended his sympathies, posting, “Stay strong, bro.”
Sports journalist Adepoju Tobi Samuel tweeted, “My condolences to Stanley Nwabali and his family over his father’s death. Stay strong, Stanley!” Similarly, Ojora Babatunde wrote, “Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has lost his father. Our condolences to his family and loved ones.”
DSI Football, a prominent Nigerian football media platform, expressed their sympathies, stating, “The Nigerian football community mourns with Stanley Nwabali on the passing of his father. May his soul rest in peace, and may you find strength during this difficult time.”
