Liverpool delivered a stunning performance against Bayer Leverkusen, securing a 4-0 victory in a sensational second-half display. A quiet first half saw both teams struggle to create clear-cut chances, leaving the game goalless at halftime.
The breakthrough came in the 61st minute when Luis Díaz chipped Leverkusen’s keeper, Lukas Hradecky, to put Liverpool ahead. Just two minutes later, Dutch forward Cody Gakpo doubled the lead, capitalizing on a well-timed assist from Mohamed Salah, who proved influential in Liverpool’s attack.
Díaz continued his stellar performance, finding the net again in the 83rd minute with another assist from Salah, who delivered his second of the evening. The Colombian forward completed his hat-trick in stoppage time, marking his first hat-trick in a Liverpool shirt and sealing the emphatic win for the Reds.
Liverpool’s victory extends their unbeaten run in the UEFA Champions League to four games. They are top of the Champions League and Premier League tables.
Meanwhile, it was a challenging night for Bayer Leverkusen’s manager, Xabi Alonso, as his side suffered their heaviest defeat under his tenure. They are on seven points in the Champions League group stage.
