Chelsea Beat Brentford to Close the Gap with League Leaders Liverpool to Two Points.

Chelsea scored their first goal of the game at the brink of halftime through Marc Cucurella’s header. However, that was far from the story, as Chelsea created many opportunities during the early stages of the half.

The Blues had the chance to go ahead in the 11th minute through Nicolas Jackson, but Mark Flekken came out on top. Nine minutes later, Flekken was called into action again by Enzo Fernandez after Noni Madueke played a brilliant pass to him, but his effort was denied by the Dutch international.

Madueke almost capitalized on a Brentford error after he intercepted a misplaced pass from Flekken to Christian Nørgaard, but he failed to make it count. Jackson had a huge opportunity to double Chelsea’s advantage after a well-worked ball from Sancho met him in the box, but he played it wide.

Chelsea’s goalkeeper, Sanchez, was called into action for the first time in the 73rd minute after Nørgaard’s volley, but he denied the Dane’s effort with an acrobatic save. Seven minutes later, former Liverpool star Fábio Carvalho almost made an impact minutes after he was introduced by Brentford’s head coach, Thomas Frank, but he was denied by the woodwork.

Jackson finally made amends for his earlier errors in front of goal by making it two for Chelsea, securing the three points for the Blues. Bryan Mbeumo pulled one back for Brentford, but it only served as a consolation, as there was very little time left for them to mount a comeback.

Marc Cucurella was later sent off after the final whistle, making him unavailable for Chelsea’s trip to Goodison Park, where they will take on Everton.
