Tottenham got the lead in the 5th minute through Dominic Solanke. Marc Cucurella’s mistake at the back helped Brennan Johnson get the ball; he crossed it to Solanke, who finished nicely. Tottenham doubled their advantage through Dejan Kulusevski; again, Cucurella was involved. Cucurella slipped, allowing Pedro Porro to get the ball; the Spaniard passed to Kulusevski, who fired past Robert Sanchez.
Chelsea pulled one back through Jadon Sancho; Cucurella made amends for his mistakes by providing the assist. Chelsea almost got back into the game in the 32nd minute when Cole Palmer shot from yards out; Fraser Forster saved it, but it rebounded to Pedro Neto at the right side, who forced another save from Forster.
The woodwork denied Tottenham a third towards the closing stages of the first half when Pape Matar Sarr met Son Heung-min’s corner with his head. Chelsea were the dominant side in the 2nd half, playing with character and purpose immediately after the restart. They had the majority of the ball and forced Tottenham into taking a defensive shape.
Chelsea could have drawn level immediately after the restart, but Sancho’s shot was met with a beautiful save by Forster. Chelsea’s dominance finally paid off in the 61st minute when Moises Caicedo was brought down in the box by Yves Bissouma. Cole Palmer stepped up and sent Forster the wrong way.
Chelsea completed the comeback 12 minutes later through Enzo Fernandez’s thunderbolt strike. Palmer dribbled past the Spurs defense from the right side before passing it to Fernandez at the edge of the box, who then fired the shot into the bottom left corner.
Chelsea got their 2nd penalty in the 83rd minute when Sarr brought down Cole Palmer in the box. Palmer stepped up and scored through a Panenka, making him the first player in the Premier League to score 12 consecutive penalties.
Son pulled one back for Tottenham in stoppage time, but it was only a consolation. The result meant Chelsea have only lost once in their last 11 games and are in the race for the Premier League title alongside the UEFA Conference League.
Enzo Maresca has done a massive job at Chelsea, taking over as head coach just six months ago. Meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou is under massive pressure to turn the situation around at Tottenham. They have now lost 7 of their opening 15 Premier League matches; the last time that happened was in the 2008/2009 season.
