Liverpool took the lead in the 23rd minute through Luis Diaz’s diving header, courtesy of a nice cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold. Alexis Mac Allister doubled Liverpool’s advantage in the 36th minute, scoring his first Premier League goal of the season.
James Maddison halved the deficit for Tottenham in the 41st minute with a shot from the edge of the area. However, Dominik Szoboszlai restored Liverpool’s two-goal advantage during half-time stoppage time, thanks to a pass from Mohamed Salah that allowed Szoboszlai to put the ball into the back of the net.
Salah made it four for Liverpool nine minutes after the restart. The move began with Andrew Robertson, who passed the ball to Cody Gakpo. The Dutch player laid it across to Diaz, who ran with the ball before finding Szoboszlai in the six-yard box. Szoboszlai’s shot was deflected by Archie Gray into the path of Salah, who slammed it home.
Salah and Szoboszlai combined again in the 61st minute, this time with Szoboszlai returning the favor for the first-half assist, giving Salah his brace. Dejan Kulusevski gave the home fans something to cheer about in the 72nd minute when he scored Tottenham’s second.
Dominic Solanke gave the Tottenham faithful a slight bit of hope in the 83rd minute when he scored Tottenham’s third, courtesy of a cross by Lucas Bergvall, which was knocked into the box by Brennan Johnson to Solanke, who volleyed it past Alisson.
However, all hopes of a Tottenham comeback were dashed when Luis Diaz made it six for Liverpool, with Salah providing the assist once again. Salah became the first player in Premier League history to reach double figures in both goals and assists before Christmas. The Egyptian has 32 goal contributions across all competitions this season for the Reds.
Liverpool is now top of the Premier League table, four points clear of second-place Chelsea, having played a game less. Arne Slot’s side is on a 21-game unbeaten run and has scored 37 goals in the Premier League.
