Manchester City’s struggles continue, with only one win in their last nine games in all competitions, following a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace.
Crystal Palace drew first blood in the 4th minute, as Will Hughes played a nice pass to Daniel Muñoz, who slotted the ball past Ortega. Ikay Gundogan came close to leveling the score 20 minutes later for Manchester City, but his effort hit the woodwork.
Manchester City got back into the game through Erling Haaland’s 30th-minute header, taking his tally to 18 goals this season. Crystal Palace went ahead for the second time in the second half, courtesy of Hughes’ corner, which was headed in by Maxence Lacroix.
Crystal Palace’s lead lasted only 12 minutes, as Rico Lewis drew Manchester City level after a terrible defensive display by Crystal Palace in the box, giving Lewis the opportunity to find the back of the net.
There was still room for drama, as Manchester City’s season continued to decline. After conceding 21 goals in the Premier League this season, they saw their young talent Lewis given his marching orders for a foul on Trevoh Chalobah. The red card will see him miss the next Premier League game against Manchester United.
Manchester City had a last chance in stoppage time, as they attempted to counter after a Crystal Palace corner, but the referee blew his whistle, ending the game. The Manchester City players were unhappy with the decision and confronted the referee, who dismissed their appeal.
Manchester City are currently seated in 4th place, 9 points behind leaders Liverpool, who have played a game less.
