Manchester United Secure a 2-1 Win over Viktoria Plzen, Earn Their First Away Victory

Manchester United dominated possession in the first half, but their efforts were limited to just one shot on target, courtesy of Bruno Fernandes’ long-range effort. Apart from that, they struggled to create meaningful opportunities.

The Red Devils started the second half poorly, falling behind due to a mistake by Andre Onana. Onana intended to pass to Matthijs de Ligt but instead played a horrendous ball that was intercepted by Pavel Šulc. Šulc then set up Matej Vydra, who finished with ease.

Manchester United were presented with a huge chance in the 59th minute after Sulc’s poor pass was met by Rasmus Højlund. The Dane ran past him and was through on goal, only to fire straight at Martin Jedlička.

Højlund made amends for his mistake three minutes later, drawing Manchester United level.

Mason Mount was close to scoring his first European goal as a Manchester United player after Amad Diallo set him up to go through on goal, but Jedlička’s legs denied him.

Manchester United continued to push forward, and their efforts finally paid off when Bruno Fernandes’ free kick was met by Højlund, who headed it home.

Rasmus Højlund became Manchester United’s first-ever player to score 10 European goals before turning 22.

The win takes Manchester United into the automatic round of 16 places in the UEFA Europa League.
