Mohamed Salah Faces Criticism for Christmas Day Post with Family

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah shared a photo with his family on Christmas Day. The Egyptian international was pictured alongside his wife and two daughters, Makka (10) and Kayan (4).
Salah, known for annually posting pictures of his family celebrating Christmas, has drawn mixed reactions. The tradition is as a result of his daughters being raised in the UK, a predominantly Christian community.

An account on X (@Ay_teey) expressed confusion, stating:
“I’m still confused. I understand that Christians who believe in Jesus are celebrating his birthday every year on the 25th of December. What I don’t understand is how a non-Christian (a Muslim believer who worships Allah and Allah alone) celebrates the birth of Jesus, even though Islam vehemently prohibits Muslims from such an act. Someone needs to tell him he has the right to whichever faith he wants. Be a Christian if that is what you want, @MoSalah, but what you are doing as a Muslim is nothing short of hypocrisy.”

An Arsenal fan (@Rodgersdusa), wrote:
“With all the warnings, you still went ahead and posted this shameful picture of yours. May Allah guide you to the right path. From now on, I shall unfollow you on all platforms and block you. You are disgraceful. I will also stop watching Liverpool matches forever! 💔”

On the other hand, some users came to Salah’s defense. @itsSh0la praised him, saying:
“Salah is a man every man should be like—someone who isn’t scared to stand for what he believes in, doesn’t need social validation, and wouldn’t let strangers shut him up. That’s a man not controlled by the media right there.”

@ahdebee :
“Mo Salah, you are a Muslim and shouldn’t be celebrating Christian holidays like this. It is haram. Please let this be the last time you pay attention to these types of comments. We’ll see you again next year. For now, let’s enjoy their tears 😂🎄❤️.”

FIFA-accredited journalist @PoojaMedia also commented :
“Jesus loves you, Mo Salah ❤️.”

Other reactions included:
@sircco_godian: “Mohamed Salah, a powerful African player in the English Premiership. Merry Christmas.”

@v_aniebo: expressed disappointment “Mark my words—you won’t score any goals until the end of the season for disrespecting our beloved Prophet SAW and the entire Muslim community.”

Salah is delivering on the pitch this season, with 32 goal contributions for Liverpool. His performances will be crucial for Liverpool’s pursuit of a historic quadruple.
