MOVIE TITLE: THE UPSIDE

‘The Upside’ movie is a true life story of a wealthy (Philip) quadriplegic who needs a caretaker to help him with his day-to-day routine in his New York penthouse. He decides to hire an ex-con (Dell) who’s trying to reconnect with his ex and young son.
Dell is a deadbeat dad who needs to prove he’s still going on fruitless job interviews to appease his parole officer.
A mix-up lands him at Phil’s just as he and his major-domo (Nicole Kidman) are taking applicants for a new aide specifically trained in the lifting, feeding and being an all-around lifeline for someone paralyzed from the neck down.
The movie tells us how lasting friendships are built and nurtured and it’s packed with life lessons, with the most important one being the value of accepting others without judgment despite differences.
This is a film that has many life lessons that we can all think about and take in as a society. Those include the idea of second chances and refraining from automatically judging a book by its cover.
It touches modern day issues, disability, pain, love, grievance, loss and many other areas.
Its quiet hilarious, making viewers’ laugher come from the seemingly impossible relationship between Dell and Phillip and their interactions, which are heartwarming and genuinely funny.
When you’re down and out, think of this movie and you’ll remember that there’s an upside to life.
