Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s fairytale run ends after Newcastle’s 4-0 thrashing of Leicester City at St James’ Park.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s side, Leicester City, suffered a 4-0 loss against Newcastle United yesterday. Jacob Murphy gave Newcastle the lead after a well-timed pass from Anthony Gordon, which he finished calmly.

It could have been more in the first half, as Mads Hermansen made some fine saves, stopping Gordon from giving Newcastle the lead in the 8th minute after diving to stop the English international from finding the back of the net, and denying Isak when he was through on goal.

Van Nistelrooy was forced to replace Hermansen with Danny Ward at halftime after the player was unable to carry on due to an injury. However the introduction of Ward saw the floodgates open, as Newcastle went on to score three more in the half.

Newcastle doubled their advantage through Bruno Guimarães in the 47th minute. Gordon was involved in the goal again, playing a free kick towards Lewis Hall, who headed it to Guimarães, who headed it home.

Three minutes later, Newcastle found the back of the net again, this time through Alexander Isak, after a fine cross by Lewis Hall met the Swedish international, who headed it home.

Murphy made it a brace for himself in the 60th minute putting the game beyond doubt.

After the game, Ruud Van Nistelrooy criticized his side for giving away set pieces. “It was a big challenge to come here, and if you give away goals from set-pieces, we are not doing ourselves a favor. We could improve the structure in which we want to play with the ball. We are in a process of two weeks together. We had two positive results, but this one wasn’t the best of afternoons for us,” he told Sky Sports.

Leicester City are 16th in the Premier League, two points off the relegation zone. They face fellow strugglers Wolves on Sunday in what will be a crucial Premier League game.
