British tennis player Emma Raducanu started her 2025 Australian Open campaign with a hard-fought victory over Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova.
Raducanu triumphed with a 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-2) win, despite struggling with double faults and losing her serve six times.
The 22-year-old committed 15 double faults, including a crucial one on break point when she was on the verge of closing out the match at 5-4, 30-0 in the second set. However, she displayed remarkable resilience, regaining control in both tie-breaks to secure the win.
Raducanu will now face Amanda Anisimova, the world number 35 from the United States, in the second round.
