Ex-Convict Returns Back to Correctional Centre Eight Days after Osun State’s Pardon

Sunday Omisakin an ex-convict granted state pardon by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on December 26, 2024 had been remanded in the Ilesa Correctional Centre.
Presiding over the Osogbo Magistrate court on 7th of January was Mr Adekanmi Adeyeba who had adjourned the case till January 10 to rule on the bail application after Omisakin was charged with Burglary and stealing.
He was said to have committed offences contrary to and punishable under Section 411 (1) (2) of criminal code cap 34 vol. Il and Section 383 and punishable under 390 (9) of Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.
The ex-convict was number eight on the prerogative of mercy list signed by Adeleke last December 26, was pardoned over ‘a simple offence’, however he returned to crime on January 3, 2025 stealing a plasma TV to the tune of N600,000.
The police Prosecutor Kayode Adeoye, ordered that the defendant be reminded in Ilesa correctional center.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence as his counsel, Najite Okobe, urged the court to admit him to bail in most liberal terms.
The prosecutor opposed the bail, stating: “The governor pardoned him few days ago. He was sentenced to prison by Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara and he was not done serving his jail term.”
