Hansi Flick Wins First Trophy as Barcelona Manager after a 5-2 Rout Over Real Madrid

Barcelona trashed Real Madrid for the 2nd consecutive El Classico meeting to win first trophy of the year.

Kylian Mbappé opened the scoring for Real Madrid with a breathtaking goal in the fifth minute. However, Barcelona’s comeback began when Lamine Yamal equalized in the 22nd minute. Real Madrid had a chance to regain the lead in the 35th minute when Eduardo Camavinga fouled Gavi in the penalty area. Robert Lewandowski converted the resulting penalty, confidently placing it past Thibaut Courtois.

Just three minutes later, Raphinha extended Barcelona’s lead to 3-1, before Alejandro Balde made it 4-1 just before halftime.

The second half saw Barcelona continue their rout, with Raphinha completing his brace in the 48th minute, taking his goal tally to 19 goals for club and country.

In the 56th minute Real Madrid were handed a way back into the game as Wojciech Szczęsny was sent off for a foul on Mbappe while he was through on goal.

Rodrygo managed to pull one back for Los Blancos in the 60th minute, but it was obvious that the goal was to make the scoreline more respectable as Real Madrid showed no signs of staging a serious comeback.

In stoppage time, Mbappé nearly secured a brace with a dangerous shot, but Iñaki Peña, made an excellent save to deny him.

During the medal presentation, there were regrets amongst the faces of the Real Madrid player . However, when captain Luka Modrić was asked about the loss, he stated, “If you have to lose a trophy, it’s better to lose this one.”

Real Madrid will return to cup action in the Copa del Rey when they face Celta Vigo on Thursday, January 16.
