Movie: SISTA

Sista played by Kehinde Bankole is the story of a single mom with two children (Fola and Anu) struggling to make ends meet, just so her children’s lot will be better in life.
The movie showcases the weight and burden that single mothers without the support of their partners often carry on their shoulders and how they have to show the children their smiling faces even when they are overwhelmed and feel like taking a breather.
It speaks about societal expectation to forgive deadbeat fathers of their misdeed, most often than not blaming their irresponsibility on youthful exuberances, immaturity or confusion about the state of things.
The movie as well tells the man’s (Deyemi Okonlawon) side of the story, who during his undergraduate year, impregnated a young girl who was all out and supportive of his dream while caring for the home front, however the young man felt stifled and couldn’t cope especially when second pregnancy surfaced, he used his National Youth Service Corps Program as an escape route to exit the homely scene.
Years after, Sista had to confront her past when the father of her children came into their lives unexpectedly, dazzling the children with gifts beyond their means in other to make amend for his past errors, as well to unburden the mother of the struggle, threatening her efforts and roles as the children’s primary provider.
The movie is packed with suspense, laugher and great lessons pick, speaks about dignity of labor, forgiveness, love, trust, steadfastness and more.
Sista is a simple story which captivates attention, evokes deep emotions and can be watched a thousand and more times, as it speaks directly to the heart.
