Naomi Osaka Withdraws From ATP Auckland Open Final Due to Injury

Naomi Osaka withdrew from the ABS Final after sustaining an abdominal injury.

Osaka won the first set, beating Danish tennis star Clara Tauson 6-4.

Her withdrawal shocked many as she played the first 35 minutes of the opening set without any clear issues.

Osaka was in tears as she left the court but returned for the title ceremony.

“I just want to thank everyone for welcoming me to such a beautiful city,” Osaka said. “I had a lot of fun playing here, and I’m really sorry about how it ended, but I hope that you enjoyed the tennis that we did play. I’m just really grateful to be here.”

This was Osaka’s first final since the 2021 Australian Open. She will hope to return in time for the Australian Open, scheduled to take place from January 12–26.
