Former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party Presidential candidate in the 2022 election, Peter Obi on Wednesday Visited the Tungamadaki Primary Healthcare Center, Abuja to inspect installation of materials donated and reaffirm his support to the community.
Recall Obi had visited the Center sometimes in March 2024 to fulfill a promise made during the 2024 World Sick Week, where he pledged the sum of 2 million Naira to support the upgrading of the facility.
The Labour Party Presidential Candidate had intoned that his decision to provide this financial assistance was rooted in dire conditions within the facility.
In his words: “It has become evident that urgent reforms are needed to address the deteriorating state of our healthcare infrastructure, which serves as the foundation of societal progress.
“The current state of primary healthcare centres across the country is alarming, with less than 10% operating effectively.
“Challenges such as infrastructure decay, equipment shortages, and understaffing plague these facilities, with over 50% in a state of disrepair nationwide.
“Tungan Madaki Primary Healthcare Centre is critical because it serves 32 villages. My gesture underscores the urgent need for improvements in healthcare funding and resourcing, particularly at the grassroots level.
“A healthy populace is indispensable for the development of our nation, and we must invest in building a robust healthcare system that can cater to the needs of all citizens.”
Obi disclosed that his “return visit was an opportunity to inspect the installations and reaffirm my commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure in deprived communities.
“During my visit, I was satisfied with the repairs so far and promised additional support to the community to further enhance the center’s capacity to deliver essential services.
“Ensuring access to quality healthcare, remains a priority and I remain dedicated to making tangible contributions toward that goal.” Obi added.
