Simon Kjær Announces Retirement from Professional Football After 18 Years

Kjær started his career in 2007 with Midtjylland. Over the course of his career, he played for 10 clubs, with his most notable stint being a four-year spell at AC Milan, where he won the only title of his professional career. He served as the captain of the Denmark national team from 2017 to 2024 and represented his country in the FIFA World Cup (2010, 2018, 2022) and the UEFA Euro (2012, 2020, 2022).

Simon Kjær’s legacy was cemented during EURO 2020 when he demonstrated exemplary leadership off the pitch, especially during the incident involving Christian Eriksen. Kjær took charge, shielding his teammate from cameras and ensuring his privacy was respected.

The 35-year-old will be remembered as one of the greatest national team captains Denmark has ever produced.
