A viral video had circulated on the social media on Tuesday, where an elderly woman who looked beaten and tired was alleged to be a witch.
The bizarre occurrence took place in Oke Ijeun, Abeokuta Ogun state with throngs of people waiting to mob her into death.
The elderly victim who looked like someone who wandered away from home was being queried by an alleged female pastor who repeatedly insinuated that the woman was a witch and had warned her to stop passing in front of her church, insisting she must confess.
However the unkempt looking woman argued that she had fallen into a gutter, reason for her clothes looking dirty and thus begged for her life, even though she was able to give the identity of her children and addresses, she wasn’t spare the torture.
A few hours later the Police operatives in the state came to whisk the victim away from tensed crowd.
Man of Letters also known as Daddy Lily with the handle @Letter_to_Jack on X reported the passing away of the distressed woman on Wednesday.
His post had read: “I heard she died.
“All of you that believed this nonsense in 2025 should be ashamed of yourselves. Clearly this woman is suffering a form of dementia and she fell into a gutter as she said.
“The other woman and her group who did this inhumane thing to her must be arrested and prosecuted.” He demanded justice for the departed soul.
@ChabbaFlorence had intoned: “This is part of the terrible problem we have in the healthcare sector. Before she degenerated to this point, all the symptoms would have been noticed by the primary healthcare centre in her locality, and the right care would be given. I hope that Nigerians can come together and rebuild this nation! I am tired of all these.
@gbemiro supported the motion for justice: “They keep putting words in her mouth. This is sad. I hope these criminals are prosecuted for elderly abuse. Attempted murder could also be a case because they’ve put her life in danger of a mob attack”
@chilling_44676 supported Daddy Lily’s stance: “I was wondering how they couldn’t capture the moment she turned to a bird, they only captured the aftermath. Everyone involved in this should be arrested. How we turned aged people to witches still beat my imagination”
@alexxitonurreo had pointed out the danger of illiteracy engraved in the people, stating: “I watched this video with so much anger. I hate illiterates with passion. Some people claim they went to school but they still look like illiterates when you hear them talk. The rot is deep and it will take a long time before posterity wipes them from the face of the earth”
