Former Real Madrid and Sevilla captain Sergio Ramos has joined Mexican club Monterrey as a free agent.

The World Cup winner had been without a club since the summer of 2024, following the expiration of his contract with Sevilla.

Ramos has signed a one-year contract with Monterrey and will wear the number 93 shirt in honor of his iconic goal for Real Madrid in the 2014 Champions League final.

Real Madrid acknowledged Ramos’ gesture on their official X handle and wished him well in Monterrey:

“Sergio Ramos will be joining CF Monterrey. The jersey number chosen by a legend of our club is a nod to our iconic ‘minute 93.’ This is a tribute to the entire Madridismo community, commemorating a moment that forever changed our history. We are eternally grateful, @SergioRamos. We wish you the best of luck and success.”

Monterrey currently sits 10th in the Mexican top flight and is managed by former Bayern Munich defender Martín Demichelis.
