Atalanta’s head coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, publicly criticized his star player, Ademola Lookman, after his penalty miss against Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League.
The 67-year-old stated, “Ademola Lookman is one of the worst penalty takers I’ve ever seen.”
“He wanted to take the penalty after scoring a goal. He took the ball despite Retegui and De Ketelaere being available to take it… I didn’t like what Lookman did.”
Lookman injured his knee in training last month, and in his absence, the club won only once in six matches. They were also knocked out of the Coppa Italia.
This season, Lookman has been involved in 21 goals, scoring 15 and assisting six.
He also became the first Nigerian to score in four consecutive Champions League matches.
