Real Madrid captain Luka Modric aims to extend his contract with the club for another year and participate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Modric, who will turn 40 in September, shows no signs of slowing down. He has been crucial for Los Blancos this season, featuring in 37 matches.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti praised the veteran midfielder, stating, “Modrić is a gift for football. Everything he does, he does very well. Real Madrid are lucky to have a legend like him.”
He further added, “This is a topic he will discuss with the club (the contract renewal). The legends have the right to do whatever they want—this is the idea of the club.”
Modric wants the 2026 World Cup to be his final international tournament. It will be his fourth World Cup, and he will aim to win it after coming close twice—finishing as a runner-up in 2018 and securing third place in 2022.
