MOVIE: 12 YEARS A SLAVE

They can take your freedom, but they can’t take your free will!

‘12 Years A Slave’ is a detailed depiction of Solomon Northup’s time as a slave, his kidnapping experience, inhuman treatment of slave owners, how blacks were treated in the 1850’s  and his liberation back to freedom.

Northup played by Chiwetel Ejiofor was a free black man who had everything he could ever ask for; a loving family, a respectable position and his freedom. All of that was taken from him abruptly when slave traders used his trade (music) to lure him, believing that he was travelling to make ends meet however he was sold to the highest bidder.

He witnessed and endured tortures unimaginable, he struggles to find a way to contact outside assistance to regain his freedom, Northup was a great man that just wanted to be free.

The movie reveals slavery in another dimension, bringing about that connection to black history and origin.

There was a very emotional moment when Northup met his family again, his daughter was married with a family of her own, the son had grown into a man, the wife stil pined for him and the just returned man looked older than his age, he had to apologize for looking unkempt.

The movie visceral portrayal of true events will stir the soul as it draws you in. It is both profoundly shocking and inspiring.
