Movie Guide: CONCUSSION

‘Concussion’ is a true life movie of a Nigerian doctor of the Igbo descent, that evolved in science and sports and the discovery: concussion link into some neurological diseases, bringing to the public’s attention the fact that brain injuries among football players are a serious problem.

Concussion is an informative & scientific look into the world of professional football and the impact it has on the human brain, showcasing an important step in raising traumatic brain injury awareness.

Nigerian born forensic pathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu (Will Smith), whose professional fate ends up shedding an unwanted light on just how terrible the impact of playing football can actually be.

While conducting an autopsy on former NFL football player Mike Webster (David Morse), Dr. Omalu discovers neurological deterioration that is similar to Alzheimer’s disease. Omalu names the disorder chronic traumatic encephalopathy and publishes his findings in a medical journal, even though the corporate world in greed did all to disprove his findings.

As other athletes face the same diagnosis, the crusading doctor embarks on a mission to raise public awareness about the dangers of football-related head trauma. It is not a movie against football, it only shows the facts and enable you make your own decision.

It’s very well made movie which takes us through the dangers associated with American Football, it afford footballers the knowledge of knowing the risk of losing their mind and eventually dying early due to head on collision so common in NFL.

‘Concussion’ though sad, it’s enlightening, informative and inspirational, revealing the ugly truth that has nothing to do with “entertainment” per se but a much closer relationship to corporate greed.

‘Concussion’ does remind us that there’s still hope and light at the end of the tunnel, especially for people who believe in truth, honestly and humanity.
