Paulo Fonseca Appointed as Olympique Lyon’s New Manager

Paulo Fonseca has been appointed as the new manager of Olympique Lyon, replacing Pierre Sage. He has signed a 2.5-year contract with the club. Fonseca is no stranger to Ligue 1, having managed Lille for two years.

Fonseca’s task is to turn Lyon’s fortunes around, as the club currently sits in 7th place. His managerial experience suggests he is the right man for the job. He has managed Roma, Lille, Braga, Porto, AC Milan, and Shakhtar Donetsk.

The highlight of his career was winning the Ukrainian Premier League three times in a row with Shakhtar Donetsk, the Portuguese Super Cup with Porto, and the Portuguese Cup with Braga.

In an official statement on Friday, the French giants announced Fonseca’s appointment, stating: “An experienced 51-year-old coach, Paulo Fonseca has built a solid reputation in Europe thanks to his numerous successes and demanding tactical approach.”

Fonseca’s first match as Lyon’s boss will be a difficult test against eternal rival Marseille.
