Raducanu Gets First Competitive Win In A Month After Victory Over Sakkari

Emma Raducanu advanced to the second round of the Dubai Tennis Championships after defeating Greek tennis star Maria Sakkari.

It was her first win in four matches, putting an end to the worst run of her career.

The 22-year-old hadn’t won since beating Amanda Anisimova in the Australian Open second round on January 16.

She secured victory over Sakkari with a 6-4, 6-2 win.

ESPN quoted Raducanu’s words: “I just tried to stay really focused on the point in front of me. There were some momentum shifts throughout the match, and when I got broken twice early in the sets, I just regrouped really well and managed to break back immediately both times. I was really pleased with how I fought and competed against Maria. She’s a top player, been as high as three in the world. I’m just really proud of my performance.”

Raducanu will face Czech player Karolina Muchova in the second round.
