Reports from The Guardian Sports suggest that UEFA is planning to remove extra time from the Champions League knockout stages.
UEFA wants to eliminate extra time and go straight to penalties to reduce the number of minutes top clubs play, especially with the growing fixture congestion.
A final decision is unlikely now due to the current television rights cycle, which runs until 2027.
It is unclear if UEFA will ultimately scrap extra time, but if they do, it might spark criticism, as extra time has always been one of the elements that bring excitement to football.
Last season, the UEFA Champions League knockout stages, from the Round of 16, went into extra time on three occasions, while the UEFA Europa League required extra time four times.
