Dr. Reuben Abati, a veteran journalist and former Senior Adviser on Media and Publicity to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, on Wednesday, said that President Bola Tinubu has committed impeachable offence.
Abati on Arise TV’s has dared senate president Godswill Akpabio to impeach president Bola Tinubu for disrespecting the constitution, stating that Tinubu has decided to make himself the Dictator of Rivers State.
According to media personality:“President Tinubu has appropriated to himself the powers to make laws for the Rivers State House of Assembly, which is an impeachable offense. I don’t know whether the National Assembly has the courage to either reject his proclamation or proceed with the issue of impeachment against him, for violating the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Recall the president declared state of emergency in Rivers state, suspended the governor Fubara Siminalayi, his deputy and the legislative citing political instability, constitutional breaches, and security threats as reasons for the extraordinary measure, Which the ace journalist disagreed with, explaining that it’s illegal in the 1999 constitution.
He continued that the president has committed an impeachable offense by removing governor Fubara, to install a military administrator in charge of the state without the National Assembly’s approval.
The former aide to ex-president Jonathan argued that, Tinubu cited Section 305, but failed to recognize Section 188 which stated that, only the NASS and AGF can remove an elected official and Not the President.
Abati insisted, Tinubu commited an impeachable offense by acting against the Nigerian constitution.
