Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes delivered a sensational performance, scoring a hat-trick to help his team into the Europa League quarter-finals with a commanding 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad.
The Red Devils entered the match eager to secure a win after a disappointing 1-1 draw at the Anoeta Stadium. However, they faced an early setback when Mikel Oyarzabal converted a penalty in the opening ten minutes.
The response was swift, as Rasmus Højlund won a penalty six minutes later after being brought down by Igor Zubeldia. Fernandes stepped up and confidently sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to level the score.
United earned another penalty five minutes into the second half when Aritz Elustondo fouled Patrick Dorgu in the box. Once again, Fernandes made no mistake from the spot, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to put his side ahead.
Real Sociedad’s problems worsened in the 63rd minute when Jon Aramburu was sent off for denying Dorgu a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
Fernandes completed his hat-trick in the 87th minute, taking his tally to 15 goals this season. Diogo Dalot then sealed the victory with a stoppage-time strike.
The club’s head coach Rúben Amorim was full of praise for Fernandes, stating after the match: “We need to help Bruno Fernandes win titles because he deserves it.”
