A Nigerian man identified Chukwuka Nweke has been sentenced to life imprisonment  for raping and murdering a 61-year-old Iris Setti, a Rovereto woman.

 According to reported Nweke known for abusing drugs, physically attacked Setti in a public park in the northeastern Italian city of Rovereto in Trento on the evening of August 5, 2023.

ANSA Italy reported that the Nigerian was found guilty of aggravated murder, robbery, and sexual violence was sentenced last week. 

Witnesses claimed that the accused, a known abuser of drugs and alcohol, viciously attacked the deceased, threw her on the ground, hitting her face and head with his fists and a blunt object.  

He fled the area but was caught a short time later by members of the Carabinieri, who stopped him on the Via Maioliche and were forced to use Tasers to subdue and arrest him. 

Local mediareported that the victim was taken to a hospital but due to the severity of the injuries she had suffered, she died several hours later.
