Juventus has sacked Thiago Motta and appointed Igor Tudor as the new head coach.
The decision to dismiss Motta came after back-to-back Serie A defeats—losing 4-0 at home to Atalanta and 3-0 away to Fiorentina—results that sparked anger among the fans.
Motta was appointed before the start of the season, giving him time to know his quad during preseason. However, he leaves Juventus in fifth place in the league, with only 13 wins from 29 games, and are 12 points behind the league leaders Inter Milan. His tenure also saw the Old Lady suffer an early exit from the UEFA Champions League and a Coppa Italia quarter-final exit at the hands of Empoli.
Juventus confirmed his departure in an official statement: “Juventus FC announces that it has relieved Thiago Motta of his position as coach of the men’s first team,” the club announced on Sunday. “Juventus FC also announces that it has entrusted the leadership of the men’s first team to Igor Tudor.”
Igor Tudor has been appointed Juventus manager on a three month deal valid till the end of the season. There is a clause that allows the Croatian ‘s contract to be extended by a further year if Juventus qualify for the UEFA Champions League but that can only be triggered by the club’s discretion.
