Lionel Messi has been ruled out of Argentina’s upcoming matches against Uruguay and Brazil after suffering an injury in Inter Miami’s 2-1 win over Atlanta United.
Fabrizio Romano reported that the 37-year-old underwent a scan following the game, which confirmed an injury in the abductor area. However, the duration of his absence remains uncertain.
Messi voiced out his disappointment about missing the crucial fixtures on Instagram, stating:
“I’m sad to miss these important games against Uruguay and Brazil. I really wanted to play, but a small injury means I need to rest for a bit, so I can’t be there. I’ll be supporting and cheering from here like any other fan. Let’s go, Argentina!”
Argentina currently leads the Copa América World Cup qualifiers table by five points. A victory against Uruguay would secure their place in the 2026 World Cup, set to be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
