Ogun CP Deploys Special Squad to Tackle Insecurity on Sagamu/Ijebu-Ode/Benin Expressway

Intensify Security Measures on Key Expressway

Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, recently conducted a personal inspection of security operations at a newly established outpost along the Sagamu/Ijebu-Ode/Benin Expressway. This strategic outpost, located near Celplas Industry, Mikano Generator, and Ladgroup Company, is manned by a specialized team called the Special Intervention Squad (SIS). Their primary objective is to curb recurring incidents of kidnapping and armed robbery, ensuring the safety and security of commuters and residents in the area.

The outpost serves as a rapid response center, providing emergency assistance to distressed commuters and reinforcing security along the expressway. This initiative is part of a broader effort to combat crime and ensure travelers’ safety.

According to CSP Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the command, the newly established outpost will function as a rapid response center, providing emergency assistance to distressed commuters and responding to distress calls from the Ijebu-Ode, Sagamu, and Owode-Egba Area Commands.

This strategic plan is designed to enhance security measures along the expressway, ensuring complete coverage. To achieve this, Odutola explained that two OP MESA security points have been set up on the Long Bridge, one facing inward and the other outward, toward Lagos.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) revealed that shed posts equipped with Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) have been set up at the Sagamu Interchange, while makeshift security posts have been established along the Ijebu-Ode/Sagamu Highway. This strategic move aims to reassure road users of the visible presence of armed police personnel, bolstering safety and security in the area.

The PPRO explained that this proactive security initiative was a direct result of a surveillance operation conducted on February 27, 2025. During this operation, the Commissioner of Police identified and blocked escape routes commonly used by kidnappers, further enhancing the security measures in place.

The command’s spokesperson further explained that, as an additional security measure, barriers have been installed to block and prevent unauthorized access along footpaths previously used as escape routes by criminals. Moreover, access control measures have been put in place to ensure that only authorized individuals can move through these areas.

To boost security along the expressway, a Quick Intervention Squad has been stationed permanently in the area. This squad is reinforced with backup teams patrolling the axis in an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) positioned at the Sagamu Intersection.

The Ogun State Police Command is committed to combating crime and ensuring travelers’ safety. To achieve this, the command urges the public to report suspicious activities through their emergency hotlines, 08099401875 for prompt rescue operations
