Jasmine Paolini advanced to the Miami Open semifinals after a 6-3, 6-2 quarterfinal win over Magda Linette.
She becomes the first Italian woman to reach the semifinals of the Miami Open. It is a historic achievement, as six Italian women have previously attempted to reach the last four but fell at the quarterfinal stage—most recently, Martina Trevisan in 2023.
After the win, she told reporters, “It feels great, of course. I’m really happy. Today was a really good match, and I just enjoyed being on the court. I’m happy with the result I had.”
Paolini also expressed her joy at being the first Italian woman to qualify for the competition’s semifinals. She stated, “It’s amazing for Italy. Tennis is growing up a lot. We are believing that we can have big results because you see other players doing it.”
Paolini will face world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals after the Belarusian secured a 6-2, 7-5 victory over China’s Qinwen Zheng.
