Sabalenka Wins First Miami Open Title, Defeats Pegula in Final

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka defeated Jessica Pegula to win first Miami Open title of her career.

Sabalenka cruised to victory with a 7-5, 6-2 win, claiming her 19th career title and eighth at the WTA 1000 level. The triumph earned her $1,124,380 in prize money.

After the match, Sabalenka told the press: “Going into this match, I had the mentality that no matter what happens, if she’s gonna break me, I had to stay focused on myself and fight for every point. I didn’t want to lose another final, to be honest. It’s really tough to lose in the final. So if someone had told me it would be a battle, I’d say, ‘OK, I’m ready for that.’”

Having lost her last two finals, she expressed joy after winning : “Finally, I was able to play my best tennis in the final, and I’m just super happy with the result and the performance.”
