Sowore Pledges Legal Backing To Delta State College Of Nursing Student Whose Admission Is Threatened Over Senator Tinubu Embarrassing Viral Video

The 2023 Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) and activist, Omoyele Sowore, in a post has urged the Provost of Delta State College of Nursing Sciences Mrs. Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne to withdraw threatening letter issue to one of its final year student, Nurse Osato Edobor.

“I am urging the provost to promptly withdraw the letter to Nurse Osato Edobor and guarantee her protection from further harassment or penalties until she graduates as a Nurse in May 2025!”

This is coming after a video went viral on Tuesday when the students had in a song rejected the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu as a mother.

Senator Tinubu had visited school to flag off the distribution of 10,000 medical kits for midwives in the South-South region.

The nursing student had made a video of the event, part of the footage covered was a place where she complained about the late starting of the event as it didn’t kicked off at the scheduled time and when she jokingly laughed at the song the MC chanted at them, “Na your mama be this o” and the students had singly rejected the First Lady as their mom.

The video sparked controversies, as people made fun of Senator Tinubu stating that the nursing students were wise in rejecting her as they are all old enough to know who their mother is.

However, representing the Delta State government, the state Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu in an interview with journalist on Thursday said the circulating video was “not entirely a true account of what happened at the ceremony.

Aniagwu explained that the First Lady had told the nurses that the kit brought were for the midwives and in due time, they will get theirs.

“Initially, the nurses were welcoming and happy. They even danced and cheered as the First Lady spoke. A few of them, however, playfully expressed their feelings by singing a different tune. This reaction was taken out of context by some individuals on social media, misrepresenting the events to fit their own narratives.

“The viral video, therefore, does not reflect the atmosphere and what truly transpired at the gathering.”

In the midst of the clarification from the state government emerged a letter from the provost threatening the Nursing student who had posted the video on her Tiktok, while some of them are making videos defending themselves that they were not part of the people that sang the song.

Sowore applauded the bravery of the Nurse Edobor for rejecting the First Lady as her mom, while he promised legal backing to the student and warned that the student must be allowed to finish her program in the school without mishap.

The activist wrote: “The audacious nursing school students who suitably rejected @officialabat‘s wife, Senator Remi Tinubu, in that “Na Your Mama Be This” song ought to be celebrated, but as is characteristic of this Tinubu repressive era, one of them is being targeted for sharing this charming rendition on her TikTok page.

“We will be providing backing to this lady with all our physical and legal might to ensure the authorities at Delta State College of Nursing Sciences do not perpetrate this egregious act of injustice, as an injury to one is an injury to all.

This video provides further details regarding the Delta State College of Nursing Sciences’ decision to penalize Nurse Edobor. Given that the State Governor @RtHonSheriff was present at the event and recently appointed Provost Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne, there’s concern that he may have influenced the unfair letter issued to Nurse Edobor in an attempt to appease Senator Remi Tinubu.” He opined.
