Birmingham City have been promoted to the EFL Championship, the second tier of English football, after a 2-1 win over Peterborough United.
Birmingham have been by far League One’s most consistent side this season. The Blues have amassed 95 points from 40 games.
It is a memorable promotion for Birmingham fans, as they secured it at the first time of asking.
Club minority owner and NFL legend Tom Brady celebrated the win on his Instagram account with a post that read: “Straight back up to the EFL Championship, and not done yet. NFL fans are getting a crash course in the English football pyramid!!!”
The club spent big before the start of the season. Last summer, they invested £25 million on 17 new players — including setting a new third division transfer record.
They are having a fantastic season and could break the record for the most points in an English professional league season. The 2005/06 EFL Championship-winning Reading side currently holds the record with 106 points.
Birmingham are also in the Football League Trophy final. They will take on Peterborough again on Sunday at Wembley Stadium, and a win could see them complete a historic double.
