The CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals have been concluded, and they produced major upsets. Reigning champions Zamalek were eliminated by tournament debutants Stellenbosch FC. The Egyptian side entered the competition as strong favourites, but they were eliminated after a 1-0 aggregate loss. It marks a disastrous start to head coach José Peseiro’s tenure in CAF club competitions.
There was another shock as debutants CS Constantine knocked out 2023 champions USM Alger on penalties, in front of their home fans.
Stellenbosch FC will now face Tanzanian side Simba SC in the semi-finals. Simba will host the first leg, while Stellenbosch will welcome the Tanzanians to South Africa for the second leg.
CS Constantine will take on Moroccan outfit and tournament favourites RSB Berkane in the other semi-final clash. Berkane will host the first leg before travelling to Algeria for the return fixture.
