Aaron Cresswell Bids Farewell to West Ham After 11 Memorable Years

Aaron Cresswell has officially left West Ham United, bringing an end to an illustrious 11-year spell with the club.

The left-back joined the Hammers in 2014 from the Championship side Ipswich Town for a fee of around £3.75 million. Since then, he has made over 350 appearances for the club, becoming one of the most consistent and dependable figures at the London Stadium.

Cresswell played a pivotal role in West Ham’s success over the years, with the crowning moment of his career coming in 2023 when the club lifted the UEFA Europa Conference League title. He was instrumental throughout that campaign and leaves as a bonafide club legend.

During his time at West Ham, Cresswell earned three England caps. He was named the Players’ Player of the Year and also won the prestigious Hammer of the Year award in the 2015 season.

While not known for scoring many goals, the few he did net came in grand fashion—often in clutch moments that fans will not soon forget.

An emotional Cresswell reflected on his departure, saying:

  • “Never in a million years did I think I’d be at this fantastic club for eleven years. So much has happened over those eleven years, and they’ve gone so fast. Moving to London with my wife Jess, and with my two kids, Sonny and Sadie, both being born down here and growing up loving West Ham—it’s been a third of my life.

This is a moment of reflection. The people I’ve met and the bonds and connections I’ve made—not just with players but with all the staff and the fans—I’ve got a great relationship with everyone at the club.”

He also shared his thoughts on the club’s historic European triumph:

  • “I don’t want to look back and feel sad, but I’ve made some unbelievable memories, not just on the pitch but also off it. To be part of the lows like fighting relegation battles to, of course, going on and winning the Europa Conference League—it was an incredible day for everyone connected to the club, as it’d been far too long coming.

Of course, I’d have loved to have started the final, but for me, the bigger picture was bringing that trophy back to East London. Those three days—the night before, the night of the final, and the day after—were incredible. The whole open-top bus journey—I couldn’t believe how many people were on the streets. I just didn’t want it to end.”

Cresswell leaves West Ham United as a true club icon—fondly remembered not just by the fans but also by the entire East London community.
