Carlos Alcaraz beat Damir Dzumhur to reach the fourth round of the French Open. The Spaniard had to do it the hard way, winning 6-1, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
Alcaraz won the first two sets, but Dzumhur showed no sign of giving up as he grew into the game in the third set, which he won. However, Alcaraz’s brilliance shone through in the fourth set as he secured the victory.
Speaking after the win, Alcaraz said: “I suffered quite a lot today. The first two sets were under control, then he started to play more deeply and more aggressively. It was really difficult for me.”
It was the four-time Grand Slam winner’s 10th straight win at Roland Garros. Alcaraz will be hoping to become the first player since Rafael Nadal in 2020 to defend his French Open title. But before that, he will have to face Ben Shelton in the fourth round.
On the other hand, it is a disappointing end for Dzumhur, who has never reached the fourth round of a major tournament.
