American singer and rapper Chris Brown was charged on Thursday with grievous bodily harm with intent, in the U.K. in connection with a 2023 nightclub incident.

This came following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police of London, where Brown is in custody and will appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court at 10 a.m. Friday, police said.

The charge stems from analleged assault at a venue in Hanover Square on Feb. 19, 2023, police said. 

Police had said earlier that a man was arrested at a Manchester hotel shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday on suspicion of grievous bodily harm in connection with an incident on the same date in 2023, but did not name Brown.

The star is slated to tour Europe with stops in the U.K. in June.
